Journals / Personal
Tah-Dah!! After many long months in seclusion, Jesse has released a new, beta version of Mandelbulb 3D: v1.8.6beta-2 test!!
This is just the executable and readme; get it at: [link]
(You will need to have installed the full version 1.8.2 x1: [link] prior to adding this update)
As always, in Jesse's own words:
"Ok, this is for those who like testing, only the executable with readme included, save your current program first when replacing it with this version....
What's new in version 1.8.6beta-2 test:
- Fixed issues in the navigator and lighting.
- 'Smooth' option when calculating only one hard shadow.
- New but slow monte carlo rendering method.
- Author names can be inserted into the parameter, look in 'Infos' tab.
- Support for loading 48 bit PNG maps and background pics.
- Exchanged the png unit with the old one because of reported saving issues.
- Preview images in the loading dialog for m3i (if images are stored in).
- Background images are displayed in the navigator.
- Some minor changes."
Great to see the man himself back in the drivers seat again!!
As always, don't forget to regularly check for the latest updates to Dark-Beam's formula pack - 'new fmlas.zip'
which can be downloaded from: [link]

Since mid Dec until now, my back has been acting up somewhat fierce. Some know this some don't.Why am I telling you this? It's because I have not been making too many comments and stuff. I look at every deviation from all the people I watch, over 250. I just thought I had to say this because, I guess somewhere, I feel guilty. I've been doing a lot of faving and running. . BUT, it's been getting a little better each and every day.
I have way too many faves on my list that I keep for linking. SO here they are:
DOF fun: JWildfire V0.62 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.62.:thumb347221183:
Major new feature is the possiblity to visually specify the focus point for calculating dof (depth of field) effects. So its much more easy to to create fractal images with awesome "depth" effects. There is short tutorial on those new features:
Complete list of changes:
- more accurate calculation of dof (depth of field)
- freely specify the focus point in dof
- special edit mode to specify the focus point visually (by dragging it with the mouse)
- simplified triangle editing modes (move, rotate and scale is one mode and uses the same controls as view editing mode), free point editing is the same as before
- allow to change the camera yaw angle by dragging the mouse in the preview window (hold left and right mouse button)
- mouse view editing: modify camera pitch by dragging the mouse in the vertical (y) direction, modify camera roll by dragging the mouse in the horizontal (x) direction
- "circus" variation my Michael Faber
- FIXED a bug
There are some terrific artists of all kinds of different medias. Enjoy
Sorry I cannot advise everyone so the fair thing to do, is not advise anybody. I don't want to show favoritism> wave:

Hello and for the form Happy New Year. I was checking out some fractals at Renderosity and I saw , in one the comments that there was anew version. SO I bring it to you.
Thanks :Jesse: for the New Year gift.
There are several new formulas.
Update version 1.8.3:
Added a lot of new formulas by DarkBeam for the new year 2013.
Added toricaleggs test parameter plus AboxShapes-Misty.m3p and spineJulia.m3p.

A deviation from someone I watch led me to think about the subject. It is real and not the legacy we want to leave behind to our children. The deviation was I already have done two or three pieces on Arctic Life and plan to do more. I have copy/pasted the description here:
"While many of us enjoy the luxury of watching TV on our couch with a cold can of soda or beer, the ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. Polar bears that need the ice to hunt and survive are drowning or starving; sometimes forced to search through dumpsters to survive. [link]
Global warming is undeniably here. 2000-present date was the warmest decade on record worldwide [link]. This is not part of the natural climate change but a human induced and an abnormally accelerated increase in temperature. Waiting for the countdown until all the ice caps and glacier have melted and water level has risen is not an option.
Many of us think that helping to prevent global warming is just about driving a hybrid car, or getting solar panels, which most people can't afford, so why bother?
While fossil fuel burning cars are a huge source of green house gasses, many other things also add up to create the problem. The manufacturing of anything takes up energy, which is usually created by burning fossil fuel like gas and coal. Relying on oil also lets big oil companies like BP and ExxonMobile get away with oil spills time and time again (with the most recent large spill in Yellowstone national park [link]) With that in mind, I'm not saying we should give up everything we own and live in the wild, but any amount of reduce, reuse, and recycle will lessen the amount of new products that needs manufacturing. And that's something we can all do.
Taking public transportation, carpooling, or riding a bike are a cost efficient and healthy way to save energy and money. Even eating less meat (especially cows and pigs), can greatly help because it takes more energy to raise a cow than some crops of the same nutritional value. Cows are also a huge source of methane, which is another type of greenhouse gases that's responsible for global warming.
There are many other small things that we can all do help the environment like turning off the lights when we're not in the room, or not using the AC or heater if we could just take off or put on a jacket instead.
Change is not waiting for the scientists and government to come up with the solution, change starts with the little things we can do everyday.

My friend in Illinois told me they were announcing severe snowstorms and would I say an extra prayer and I said yes, of course. Well it went completely around her and ended up here. We already had some snow, as is usual for the time of year but this is the first snowstorm. The snow is going sideways as I look out the front window. There#s a sort of peaceful feeling when it snows, except if you own a car.
I have not been making many comments to the massages and deviations I get every morning. In fact I haven't been doing much of anything. I have BIG time problems with my back. I just moved at the end of November and to say I overdid myself would be a gross understatement . Just know that I do read and view them all. I am not being snobby, it's not part of nature.

Britte and Andreas. aka sidewinder have joined each other in holy matrimony. A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH. May you be forever happy together.
It's been a while since I've had a sense of Romance here, but you two are most encouraging, Brigitte was one of my first friends here at DA, way back in 2006 or so. I am really happy for you Brigitte.
Please join me in congratulating Brigitte and Andres. Have a nice day>

Hello everyone. I now have ultra high speed internet with a bigger cap, maybe it was worth wait, MOT! I installed Internet in 2006 for my laptop. I have never been without internet for more than a few hours due to electricity. I DO NOT like being so long without. How many times did I say to myself "I'll just look it up with Google, only to stop myself in my tracks or once even starting up Firefox. No cable neither. It's amazing how dependent I am on cable and internet. No e-mails. good thing I have my Smart Phone. I got the brilliant idea to use my Smart Phone as a modem or WI-Fi hotspot. I managed to use up 80% of my data allowance for the month on the second time I used it. Ouch!! I have this great APP that monitors, alerts, and shut down functions. Isn't technology wonderful! My 32" LCD Flat screen used to have this fancy light show when you turned it on. I haven't been able to get it to turn on since I moved into my new place, on Wednesday, last week. YAY That was the 28th, my three year extended warranty expired on the 9th!! Ouch even more. SO I am now looking at an old square 27". Remember those? I bet some of the younger people have never even saw one. LOL.
I had to delete most of the deviations, replies and comments, since last Wednesday. I guess everyone can understand why.
I am glad to be back here most of all! I did mange to finish off 10 0r more works, including some 3D Anaglyphys. I had not used the new version's anaglyph function. It's a lot better than it was. You will the judge of that.
So Hello, and LET'S GET THE SHOW ON THE ROAD!!!
Mon Dec 3, 2012, 2:51 PM
They sure are Smart Phones, they know how to make you pay money and more money, and so on. Any ways They are coming at 7:30 to install my cable and Ultra high speed Interant. (this is new, I had reg high speed)
I'll write about my experience tomorrow . Ciao everyone, ti amo tutti!!
Sat Dec 1, 2012, 9:16 AM
I was able to log in using my cell phone. I flushed all deviations and comments. Sorry but I only have 1GB of data transfer per month so I will not be online!! I will only come to do the same thing from day to day.
Please note that I viewed most of my friends deviations, left a few comments and faves, but cannot reply to all. I thank everyone for their cooperation in not leaving any notes or comments, save them for Tuesday. I love you all and I will back Tuesday, full blown, hopefully.

I often hear or see deviants who complain about DA asking what kind of community is this? This week I found out. I think maybe reaffirmed what I already knew. This community, our family, is terrific. First was my birthday, I think everyone knows my response after having received a bunch of gifts and a gazillion messages. I was in awe, never having sensed a feeling of love like that, What makes it special is that it comes from all over the world. What a Feeling, and I am not talking about the song. LOL I thank all who responded once again .
Someone asked me if I had any pictures of myself. I looked and the only one I had are the ones you see. I could simply have posted the one from 2009 and skipped the ones with the chemo, but I decided to show the real me. Art has helped in so many ways. I always try to be transparent. WYSIWYG. I was a bit curious as to how people would respond. Well, I was totally blown away by expressions of love and support that I got. Expressions of Love and Gratitude. There was a good article on Gratitude from DA last week that really captured the essence of the key to the DA community. techgnotic.deviantart.com/jour… And your responses are the examples. Intense feelings of love and support. Thank you so much to all of you. Even people I have never met responded.
THIS IS WHAT OUR FAMILY IS ALL ABOUT!! Especially within the fractal community and other lovers of fractals. At DA we are a passionate gang of people as shown by the passion put into the art in all it's mediums. Again I can't thank you all enough for this ride I have been on for the past two days. Magic Carpet Ride, anyone remember Steppenwolf? The band, not the book.
I have seen comments one site saying at DA they're a bunch of wannabbe artists . That's when I stopped submitting to that site. WC.
How is it that I ave 1106 Fonts installed and I still have to download new ones? It's a rhetorical question, actually. INSANE!!!!
THANK YOU ALL I'm fractally la la. LOL
Here are some faves of mine :thumb339889060:

Overwhelmed is maybe an under statement! It is an honor, as I sit here humbled. Never did I expect this. I thought there would be like 1 or 2 messages, maybe 3. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH TO all of you.
I have received so many gifts and comments from people TOO numerous to mention. Some from people I've hardly gotten to know.
Here are the gifts that I received This past week. I know there is one missing, because in my haste I forgot to fave it. I am sorry for that.
Extra thank you to you.
The order has nothing to do with preference, only love.
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. This is what this community is all about.

Your Title - version 2.0
I thought since it was Thanksgiving for my American friends and watchers. To all of you I present a mixed medium feature. I hope you discover a new artist you like or a new work you wouldn't mind hanging on your wall.

I believe in deviantART. Which is to more accurately say I believe in the concept and the reality of the deviantART community.
When in contemplation of the eternal wellspring that is the deviantART project and how it has become the engine keeping my heart and mind on a full burn as I strive to be an upstanding member of the community as well as a helpful architect and eager participant in the conversation -- my thoughts inevitably settle upon my attempts to define my concept of Gratitude.

Hi everybody I downloaded a template or a style and there was a PDF file with links to fonts needed. One of the links gave me Trojan Dropper. do BEWARE of where you download you fonts. I always try dafont first. I'm sure we all have our favorites. If you want to pipe in and say which, I'd be delighted.
SO here's the moment. I keep a list of the thumbnail codes for everything I fave, I use them, usually, to link when I submit. But I don't submit enough for all the great art and artists I have seen or found in the last weeks. Here I am posting them all and will start off with a fresh list. I don't know if I will be able to advise everyone. At least my watchers and friends will recognize their works. There is a great mix of all kinds of art and artists. I hope you have a good time and find a new artist or artist's style that you like. Take care to all. :
Streamlined: JWildfire V0.55 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.55.:thumb334056806:
Major new feature is the possibility to render with transparent backgrounds – a feature which was recently demanded by certain artists. I initially had some other things in mind for V0.55, but this is the way how JWildfire-development works, it is community-driven, and it really makes fun! Some other cool features are targeting the workflow: quicksave function, create snapshots, updates of the thumbnail ribbon are done much more quickly now, and the thumbnail ribbon reflects now changes made to any fractal.
Complete list of changes:
- support for rendering with transparent backgrounds
- Quicksave function (Stores the current flame in the default flame output folder with a generated filename "qsave_YYYY.MM.DD_NNN.flame")
- snapshot function to store the current state of a flame to the thumbnail ribbon
- per-flame-option for background transparency (which is also stored and remembered with the flame)
- preferences option for default background tr

Once again I have way too many faves on my list. That means I am posting most of them. It's pretty varied and I hope you like my choices. See you all later.
This one is my favorite fave of this feature. A drawing painting by A very talented artist, IMHO.
New tools for artists: JWildfire V0.53 releaseJust released JWildfire V0.53.:thumb330584099:
Major additions where made to fractal flame editor regarding to controlling image quality at the artist level. There is now an antialiasing option which you can specify at the transform level and some additional powerful gradient manipulation tools.
Complete list of changes:
- new antialising option on the transform level, you can control this by two parameters: amount (how many samples are affected by this effect) and radius (how strong is the antialasing effect)
- new gradient manipulation functions: invert and reverse gradient
- new gradient manipulation properties: blur and frequency
- changed the layout of the main toolbar so that it better resizes according to different screen resolutions
- new built-in script example (based on "Mobius Dragon" by penny5775)
- using multiple threads for tonemapping of the realtime preview which should result in smoother behaviour on most machines
- fixed a bug in the Elliptic variation (now should work like the old *
